Felony Case in Dog Mauling at Far East Dallas Park Is Headed to Grand Jury

The Dallas Police Department has referred to a grand jury a felony case against the owner of three Rottweiler-mix dogs who attacked a couple June 1 at Ferguson Park in Far East Dallas.The dogs' owner, who has not been publicly identified by police, declined to comment to The Dallas Morning News after the incident. He could face between two and 10 years of jail time for the criminal negligence dog bite offense, a class C felony. Francisco and Esmeralda Madrigal were on their regular 8:30 a.m. weekend walk at the park when three dogs from a house just across the street charged at them and attacked them.According to information on a GoFundMe page set up by Madrigal's co-workers at the foundation repair company where Francisco Madrigal has worked for more than 20 years, the husband beat the dogs back long enough to help his injured wife climb into a tree.
