Father of Girl, 13, Says She Was Raped at Timberlawn by Teen Male Patient

The father of a 13-year-old girl who reported being raped at Timberlawn psychiatric hospital says she was assaulted by another patient, a 17-year-old boy. The father, who lives in Winnsboro, a small town about 100 miles east of Dallas, said he learned details of the case from police officers investigating the incident. The Dallas Morning News is withholding his name to protect the identity of his daughter.No arrests had been made. State hospital inspectors were also looking into the matter.The father said his family doctor had referred his daughter to Timberlawn for depression; she checked in last week. He said he first learned about the attack from her, not the hospital’s staff, on Monday evening.“This can’t happen to anyone else,” he said. “The place needs to be shut down.”His daughter was treated at a Dallas hospital and is now at home.  Continue reading...
