Ex-Marine's Trial to Begin for Drive-by Shooting That Killed UNT Student

A former Marine corporal will stand trial this week in the 2016 fatal shooting of a University of North Texas student.Eric Jamal Johnson, of Fort Worth, is charged with murder. He's accused of shooting 20-year-old Sara Mutschlechner while she was driving away from a New Year's Eve party with friends.Johnson was arrested just days later at a military base in Arizona, after authorities said he admitted shooting Mutschlechner. He was discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps.Police said Mutschlechner was serving as her friends' designated driver early January 1 when several men in a Honda Pilot exchanged words with them, at one point yelling sexually explicit statements at them.Police said Johnson was driving the Honda Pilot and shot into Mutschlechner's car before speeding away. Denton County court records show jury selection will begin Monday morning for Johnson's trial. He is being held in the Denton County jail.More on this case:  Continue reading...
