Drunken Driver Hit Irving Officer Working Hit-and-run Accident on Loop 12, Police Say

An Irving police officer working a hit-and-run accident early Sunday was injured when a suspected drunk driver crashed into her squad car.Brianna Noel James, 22, was charged with driving while intoxicated and booked into the Irving jail.The squad car had been blocking the left southbound lane of Loop 12 near Grauwyler Road while a tow truck removed a vehicle damaged in the first accident, Irving police spokesman James McLellan said.Around 1:30 a.m., James' vehicle hit the cruiser, injuring the officer inside, according to McLellan.The officer was taken to Parkland Hospital as a precaution but her injuries were minor, McLellan said.
