Driver Dies After West Oak Cliff Crash That Injured Dallas Fire-Rescue Medics

A driver is dead and two Dallas Fire-Rescue medics were hospitalized after a crash early Sunday morning in west Oak Cliff, officials said.The ambulance was driving west on West Davis Street about 3:15 a.m., headed to a call about a medical emergency, when a pickup driver going south on North Westmoreland Road ran a red light and crashed into the ambulance, police said.The pickup driver as well as two medics in the ambulance had to be extricated from the wreckage, Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said. All three were taken to a local hospital.The civilian driver, identified as 28-year-old Luis Cabrera, died of his injuries at the hospital, police said.The medic who was driving the ambulance is OK and expected to be released from the hospital, Evans said.
