Driver Airlifted After Truck Dumps Its Load of Concrete on Bush Turnpike in Garland

A concrete truck overturned in Garland, trapping the driver inside and dumping its load on the Bush Turnpike during rush hour Wednesday morning.The truck driver "took a curve too fast" at the interchange with State Highway 78 and toppled over, spilling a drum of concrete onto the roadway, said Lt. Lonny Haschel, a spokesman for the Department of Public Safety.Garland police and multiple fire departments were dispatched to the accident near Firewheel Town Center. Firefighters spent over an hour freeing the driver from the wreckage.A CareFlite helicopter airlifted the man to the trauma unit at Medical City Plano where he was in critical condition, Haschel said.Motorists were advised to find alternate routes while crews continue to clean up the spilled concrete.  Continue reading...
