Donors Triple Number of Families Receiving Christmas Gifts After Fire Destroyed Toys at Dallas Nonprofit

A fire that destroyed a pile of Christmas gifts for needy Dallas families on Tuesday turned out to have a silver lining after all.While the nonprofit Quest 4 Greater Success originally planned to give out toys to 54 families, donors amassed enough replacement gifts for 182 families, WFAA-TV (Channel 8) reported."Some of these families have to use their money for food, and not for toys--so we wanted to make sure that each family here got toys for their kids on Christmas," executive director Assata Thomas told WFAA.The fire was reported at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Asante Apartments at 202 S. Jim Miller Road early Tuesday. Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames shooting from the first and second floors of the complex's community center.The building houses Quest 4 Greater Success' office and a computer lab.No one was hurt, but gone were the gifts the nonprofit had collected.  Continue reading...
