Dogged FBI Agent Who Retired After Stroke Takes the Stand to Describe Launch of John Wiley Price Investigation

John Wiley Price came face to face Tuesday with the man whose work could land him in prison for the rest of his life. Don Sherman is the former FBI agent and public corruption specialist who led investigations that ended in convictions for former Dallas City Council members Al Lipscomb and Don Hill and who retired due to serious health problems while looking into Price. He walked into the courtroom on the second day of testimony in the Dallas County commissioner's trial in a slow shuffle, his workable right hand gripping a metal cane. Sherman took the stand to tell jurors how the Price investigation took root Sherman said he officially opened the Price investigation in 2010, the year that former Mayor Pro Tem Don Hill was sentenced to 18 years in federal prison for bribery. Since then, the lives of the commissioner and the former agent changed for the worse.Price is still in office but facing the loss of his freedom and reputation. Sherman suffered a life-threatening stroke in 2012 during the height of the Price investigation. He retired from the FBI in 2013 after 22 years with the bureau and later worked part time for the government as a consultant after undergoing rehabilitation.   Continue reading...
