‘DOA:' HMK Landlord Scoffs at Offer for West Dallas Rent Houses as Evictions Near

The West Dallas landlord seeking to evict scores of his tenants scoffed at an offer Friday from a Dallas real estate firm to buy about 260 of his properties.Residential Capital Partners offered to buy the properties from HMK Ltd. for about $17 million, minus “code necessary repairs.” As a June 3 eviction deadline nears, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said the two officials of the real estate firm reached out to him to structure a deal that would allow the company to buy all the homes, repair them, then sell them to the tenants, who now pay $300 to $600 in monthly rent.On Friday, Khraish Khraish, HMK Ltd.’s co-owner said repeatedly. “This non-offer is DOA,” Khraish said. “I am frankly embarrassed for the mayor.”Rawlings said Friday that he’s just a middle-man trying to help the families save their homes. “If he is passing it up, he is passing up a helluva deal.”  Continue reading...
