Dirk Nowitzki Earns Prestigious Award for His Work Off the Court

Dirk Nowitzki is not only a giant of the NBA.The Dallas Mavericks star has contributed so much to humanitarian causes that the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth will give him the prestigious H. Neil Mallon Award for 2017. The award recognizes individuals who bring an international spotlight to North Texas."The council is excited to honor Dirk Nowitzki with the H. Neil Mallon Award," said president and CEO James N. Falk. "He is not just a basketball star, but a humanitarian who clearly sees how the good that people do for others helps create the global trust that is the basis of international friendship and understanding."The 7-foot tallforward established The Dirk Nowitzki Foundation in 2001 to advance children's education and well being worldwide. His wife, Jessica, serves as president.Nowitzki, who has also played on the Olympics basketball team of his native Germany, will be honored at the 34th annual Mallon Award Dinner on Sept. 22.The NBA celebrated his humanitarian work in 2007 with its Community Assist Award.Challenge grant for the holidaysParkinson Voice Project plans to add 3,200 square feet to its Richardson clinic with the help of a $500,000 challenge grant from Brigid and Clark Lund.The couple will donate the money if the nonprofit raises $1 million during the holiday season.
