Developers Seeking Approval for High-rise Addition to Dallas' Cabana Hotel

Developers who are redoing Dallas' landmark Cabana Hotel on the edge of downtown are seeing approvals for a major addition.Centurion American Development Group is asking the Dallas city plan commission for the okay to add a high-rise apartment tower at the Stemmons Freeway project."We are trying to get our zoning for the second phase so we have ability to build a residential tower on top of the parking garage," Centurion American CEO Mehrdad Moayedi said. "That is what we have always intend."It's got beautiful views of downtown."Centurion American in 2017 paid $8.1 million for the 10-story hotel across the highway from Victory Park.The developer - who spent almost $250 million to restore and redevelop downtown's landmark Statler Hotel - has been working to redo the Cabana."The demolition and environmental is completed and I got the historical preservation approved," Moayedi said. "We are going forward."The entire project is planned to include a combination of hotel rooms, apartments and retail space. Giese Ltd designed the hotel redo.The proposed apartment high-rise would be more than 20 stories tall.The Cabana Hotel was built in 1962 by Jay Sarno, the developer of Las Vegas' Caesars Palace.
