Democrats Show Little Concern About Violent Crime on the Border

The Democratic Party's ill-fated attempt to stop President Donald Trump's emergency declaration calls into question whether liberal politicians in Washington actually care about protecting Americans from violent crime.In their latest effort to obstruct the president, House Democrats passed a measure to overturn the president's executive actions that reallocated $8 billion in previously approved funding toward a border wall.Before the resolution was formally introduced, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sent a letter to lawmakers decrying Trump's executive action and urging her colleagues to help block his plan for addressing the crisis on our southern border."I write to invite all Members of Congress to co-sponsor Congressman Joaquin Castro's privileged resolution to terminate this emergency declaration," she wrote. "The president's decision to go outside the bounds of the law to try to get what he failed to achieve in the constitutional legislative process violates the Constitution and must be terminated."As Pelosi is well aware, though, the resolution has been doomed from the very start. While the Democratic majority ensured that the measure would pass in the House of Representatives, Republicans still control the Senate, which must also approve it. Even if the resolution somehow receives enough GOP votes to pass the Senate, the president will almost certainly issue a veto, and there is hardly any chance that Democrats can secure enough Republican votes to override his veto.That's why Democratic lawmakers from 16 states are simultaneously seeking to defeat the executive action in court, accusing the president of "manufacturing" the border crisis in order to circumvent Congress.  Continue reading...
