Dallas Zoo Says 1-year-old Giraffe Dies While Under Anesthesia During Exam

The Dallas Zoo's 1-year-old giraffe died Monday while he was undergoing a routine physical exam, the zoo said. In an email to zoo members ahead of a public announcement, president and CEO Gregg Hudson said the giraffe, Witten, suddenly stopped breathing while he was under anesthesia."An urgent attempt was made to resuscitate him, without success," Hudson said in the email. "We have performed these physical exams many times in the past without incident, but for humans and animals alike, there is always a risk associated with anesthesia and some animals react differently."  Continue reading...
