Dallas Rep. Colin Allred Teaming Up With Fellow NFL Player in Congress in a Show of Bipartisanship

WASHINGTON — Freshman Reps. Colin Allred and Anthony Gonzalez are using their shared background as NFL players to demonstrate bipartisanship in a deeply divided Congress.Allred, a Democrat, will visit the Republican’s Ohio district next week, and Gonzalez will visit Dallas in the fall.Allred played linebacker at Baylor University and signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2006, staying with the team for five seasons. He suffered a neck injury in 2010 in a game against the Dallas Cowboys, which ended his football career. Gonzalez played at Ohio State and was a first-round draft pick in 2007. He played five seasons for the Indianapolis Colts before retiring because of knee injuries.In Ohio, Allred and Gonzalez will attend the preseason NFL Hall of Fame game Thursday, host a joint town hall, tour a local business and have lunch at the Fathead Brewery.The visits echo another show of bipartisanship by two Texans — former El Paso Democrat Beto O’Rourke and San Antonio GOP Rep.
