Dallas Needs the Mayor’s Violent Crime Task Force to Find Answers

We can say this — Mayor Eric Johnson was right to step forward this week and speak up on the biggest problem facing Dallas, a spike in violent crime.Naming the problem and promising to address it is a crucial step in turning city resources at every level toward making Dallas safer.But we have some reservations about the plan Johnson framed Monday to form what he called a Task Force on Safe Communities. Task forces are the sorts of things a government creates when it doesn’t know what else to do, and residents have seen plenty of them come and go with little effect.So the burden will be on the volunteer task force members Johnson selected to demonstrate that this will be different.   Continue reading...
