Dallas ISD Takes Steps to Tackle Racial Equity, But a Report It Commissioned to Look at the Issue Falls Flat

It wasn't long after the start of the presentation that it became clear that a long-anticipated racial equity audit for Dallas ISD had missed the mark.Furrowed brows and sideways glances from the district's board said as much.Trustees were hoping that the study -- which the authors said included 500 classroom observations and 350 interviews of teachers, principals, parents and students at 20 DISD campuses -- would provide a template for how best to deal with inequities.DISD passed a racial equity resolution in December, acknowledging the corrosive effects of segregation on the district’s students and pledging to do its best to fix them.  Continue reading...
