Dallas County Sheriff's Race: Meet the Contenders

Four current or former Dallas County sheriff's deputies are running for sheriff to complete the unexpired term of Lupe Valdez, who resigned to run for governor. In the Democratic primary, Valdez's third-in-command, Marian Brown, will face off against Constable Roy Williams Jr. In the Republican primary, Chad Prda, a detective, will run against Aaron Meek, a sheriff's deputy. Countywide races have in recent years leaned Democratic. On Tuesday, county commissioners will appoint an interim sheriff to lead the department until a new sheriff is elected in November. Commissioners may appoint someone who's not running for the seat. If not, Commissioner Elba Garcia said she supports Williams; Commissioner John Wiley Price said he will back whomever Valdez recommends. Valdez has privately indicated she would recommend Brown, according to Garcia. It's unclear who the other three members of the commissioners court support.   Continue reading...
