Dallas Council Member Philip Kingston Repays $8K Debt for Missing Too Many Meetings

A year and a half after agreeing to make payment and two days after missing the deadline, Dallas City Council member Philip Kingston on Wednesday handed the city’s chief financial officer a check for $8,160.Elizabeth Reich, the CFO, had previously given Kingston until Sunday to repay the portion of his council salary to the city for missing too many council meetings in 2016 and 2017. His payment came a day after The Dallas Morning News reported that he had jeopardized his re-election bid because he hadn’t responded to Reich’s multiple requests for payment.The debt dated back to 2017, when then-City Secretary Rosa Rios calculated that Kingston had missed 13.6 percent of the regularly scheduled meetings on the 2016-17 calendar, triggering a penalty.  Continue reading...
