Dallas Chief U. Renee Hall Taking Leave of Absence Following Major Surgery, Police Say

Dallas police Chief U. Renee Hall is taking a scheduled leave of absence after undergoing a major surgery, the department said Wednesday. In a statement released Wednesday, police said Hall's mother died in October 2018 from a health condition, which prompted Hall to have a wellness check in January. "The physicians expressed concerns that needed to be addressed and scheduled surgery for July," the statement said. "Hall underwent a procedure this week and is home resting comfortably."Police did not provide any additional details Wednesday night. While Hall is on leave, Executive Assistant Chief David Pughes will be acting in her stead, police said. In 2017 interview with The Dallas Morning News, Hall discussed how had she juggled her work while caring for her mother, who needed dialysis and later a kidney transplant.   Continue reading...
