Court Reverses Theft Verdict for ex-Fort Worth Funeral Director Who Left Corpses in Building

A former Fort Worth funeral director sentenced to two years in state jail for taking clients' money and failing to bury or cremate eight bodies has had his conviction reversed.Dondre Johnson, 42, who co-owned the Johnson Family Mortuary, had his conviction for two counts of theft overturned Thursday, KTVT-TV reported.Johnson's lawyer Bob Gill told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that the 2nd Court of Appeals ruled there wasn't enough evidence to convict Johnson. Both convictions were changed to acquittals.Prosecutors could still challenge the ruling."We believe the jury's verdict was correct, and we are evaluating our options to uphold that verdict," Tarrant County District Attorney Sharen Wilson told the Star-Telegram.  Continue reading...
