Cornyn Slams Dems for Hypocrisy on Comey Firing While Cruz So Far Stays Mum

WASHINGTON -- Fallout from former FBI director James Comey’s abrupt firing continues to reverberate through the U.S. Capitol, with a few key Republicans joining Democrats in raising concerns about the timing of his dismissal in light of the FBI’s probe into the Trump campaign’s Russian ties.Texas Sen. John Cornyn appeared to initially side with the White House, taking to Twitter to slam Democrats as hypocrites for decrying the firing of a man they've also assailed, while Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has so far remained mum. Arizona Sens. John McCain and Jeff Flake, as well as Senate Intelligence Chairman Richard Burr, R-N.C., are among the Republicans who released statements Tuesday indicating they are “troubled” by the news.“I have found Director Comey to be a public servant of the highest order,” Burr tweeted on Tuesday, later adding: “His dismissal further confuses an already difficult investigation by the committee.”And Flake, a member of the Senate's judiciary and foreign affairs panel, tweeted that he's spent "several hours trying to find an acceptable rationale for the timing of Comey's firing.
