CNN Declares Dallas Chef Chad Houser One of Its ‘Heroes'

Chad Houser offers a perfect illustration of how lives can change in an instant. In 2008, he says, "I was at the top of my game." He had just been nominated as best up-and-coming chef in Dallas by D magazine.He was asked to assist in an ice cream competition at the Dallas Farmers Market, where eight kids from a Dallas County juvenile facility were taught by Houser how to make ice cream. He continued working with the kids almost immediately thereafter, and in 2015, he opened Café Momentum, a gourmet restaurant in downtown Dallas that doubles as a nonprofit on a mission.Based on that work, on Thursday the CNN cable network added Houser to its roster of CNN Heroes.
