Circumstances Cloudy in Wreck That Left Man Dead in White Rock Hills

It is unclear what happened when Dallas police and Dallas County Sheriffs deputies came upon an accident scene and found one man dead in the road Friday on Interstate 30 at Ferguson Road in White Rock Hills.According to a sheriffs department spokeswoman, deputies found a green Honda with rear damage and a red Mercedes with damage to its front around 12:52 a.m. The driver of the Mercedes said she noticed the Honda stopped in the right lane but couldn't slow down in time to avoid hitting it.Five passengers were in the Honda, but two were outside when it was struck, DSO spokeswoman Melinda Urbina said. One, a male without any identification on him, was dead. The driver of the Honda, 39-year-old Derrick Tate, was also outside and told officers he had pulled over so he and the other man could urinate. Two passengers inside the Honda were taken to Baylor University Medical Center with serious injuries -- one with a broken arm and the other with a dislocated hip and leg, Urbina said.Tate was arrested and charged with intoxication assault causing serious bodily injury, which stems from Tate stopping the car in the right lane of traffic, Urbina said. The driver of the Mercedes was not detained. It is unclear at what point the fatality occurred or whether it was related to the accident, which is under investigation, Urbina said.   Continue reading...
