Child Porn Suspect Plotted to Kill Prosecutor and Witness, Plano Police Say

A Plano man already jailed on multiple charges, including child pornography and sexual assault of a child, is now accused of plotting to kill a witness and the Collin County prosecutor handling his case.Daniel Barry Steffen, 69, has been in custody since Aug. 31. On Thursday, Plano police issued new warrants charging him with criminal solicitation of capital murder and criminal attempt to improperly contact a victim. His bail is now set at $2.34 million.Since his arrest, Steffen had numerous conversations with a fellow inmate who was in contact with his brother, according to a police affidavit. The inmate's brother was supposed to meet with "family connections" in Chicago about having "the suspect's prosecutor executed." There were also conversations about Steffen wanting to kill the man who initially called police about his alleged inappropriate behavior with a teenage boy.   Continue reading...
