A new Plano-based magazine wants to capitalize on the popularity of cannabis products now carried by retailers that range from gas stations to luxury department stores.CBD Snapshotpublished its first issue this month. The magazine and its website will focus on cannabidiol or CBD, a cannabis compound that's been linked to some health and wellness benefits. It's found in hemp and marijuana, which both come from the cannabis plant. Hemp and hemp-derived CBD, however, have little to no tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the psychoactive compound that gives marijuana users a high.Editor-at-large Brooke Alpert said she wants the magazine to be "a go-to resource for customers and readers" interested in learning more about CBD. She said it will feature research, personal stories and articles that help people sort through scientific claims and identify proven products."It’s such an awesome product, but it’s not a miracle drug," she said. "I want to cut through all of those smoke and mirrors."The consumer-focused magazine is launching as cannabis products become more mainstream and lawmakers loosen rules around them. A federal farm bill legalized hemp in December. Texas lawmakers approved a bill this week that would legalize CBD products, so long as they contain less than 0.3 percent of THC.
