Bright Yellowy-orange House in Deep Ellum to Be Replaced With a 7-Eleven

The eyebrow-raising, painted brick house on the corner of Commerce Street and Exposition Avenue at the edge of Deep Ellum is about to be demolished and replaced with a new 7-Eleven, store number 38519 to be exact. Complete with gas pumps outside and the rest of the franchise's standard fare inside a newly built retail structure, it's set to open early next year. Central Track first put out the word about the planned development earlier this month. 7-Eleven is now marketing the property it to potential franchise owners online.Formerly an auto shop, the two-story structure received its conspicuous coat of paint (specifically, Sherwin William's Osage Orange, according to Paige Skinner of the Dallas Observer) in the summer of 2017 along with its parking lot, which went blue. The owner of the property, Scott Rohrman of 42 Real Estate, recruited a bunch of college students to help him paint over the course of five days according to Skinner. "As I just sat and looked at [it], it just felt like it kind of needed to be orange in a blue field, so we did it," he told her at the time.  Continue reading...
