The birds seized Sunday from an illegal cockfight in southeast Dallas have unique shelter requirements. There's a heavy-duty black plastic panel between each cage, so the occupants can't get at one another, can't even see what's on the other side. This is because there's not much going on in their rooster brains apart from the urge to kill other roosters - to slash and tear and maim until the blood flows. Nature did not make them this way; people did. And the damage that has been inflicted on these creatures through backyard breeding and forced fighting is irreversible.
