Border Patrol Agents Rescue Immigrant With Heat Stroke After Guide Abandoned Her Near Border

Border Patrol agents rescued a woman suspected of being an unauthorized immigrant after she was found suffering from heat stroke near the Texas-Mexico border.The agents were tracking a group of people accused of entering the country illegally Jan. 21 near a ranch in El Cenizo, near Laredo, when they encounter the unresponsive woman, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said. The woman, who is from Guatemala, had been abandoned by her guide when she couldn't keep up with the rest of the group, the agency said. The agents carried the woman to their vehicle several hundred yards away because they could not drive to the area where she was found. The agents, along with a Border Patrol EMS technician began working to stabilize the woman as they waited for emergency services. "The fact that these smugglers abandoned this young lady in the unforgiving terrain and left her to die with temperatures sweltering over one hundred degrees demonstrates how callous and heartless these smuggling organizations are," said Chief Patrol Agent Gabriel Acosta with the Laredo Sector in a prepared statement.   Continue reading...
