Baylor, ‘the Damn Best School in America'? Let's See the Facts

Baylor women's basketball coach Kim Mulkey had a perfect opportunity Saturday to inform the masses about how her university is making student safety its top priority.She blew it. The longtime-successful coach not only echoed the same insensitive message that has emanated too often from the Waco campus, she punctuated her excuse-making with this rallying cry to fans:"If somebody's around you and they say, 'I will never send my daughter to Baylor, you knock them right in the face.' "Mulkey also used the limelight -- her 500th victory as a head coach -- to lecture Baylor critics: "I'm tired of hearing it ... The problems that we have at Baylor are no different than the problems at any other school in America. Period. Move on."That message is wrong and damaging on so many counts. If Mulkey is in the know, as she maintains, why not offer a positive message about some of the 105 reforms Baylor says it has put in place?
