Barricaded Man Set Mattress on Fire Near UT-Arlington as Police Tried to Arrest Him in Assault Case

A man was arrested after barricading himself in a building near the UT-Arlington campus Thursday when police attempted to serve a warrant.Arlington police went about 3 p.m. to the Zen Apartments at East Mitchell and South Center streets, to serve an aggravated assault warrant to Colin Edward Grubb. He barricaded himself in the complex and refused to surrender, police said. Officers attempted to start a conversation with him, but after about an hour smoke started coming from the building. The building was evacuated and the fire, which was thought to have been started when Grubb set a mattress alight, was extinguished. Grubb, 35, was taken into custody after he was found hiding in a closet.The university sent a MavAlert warning people to avoid the area, but noted there was no danger to the campus.   Continue reading...
