Attacker at Large After Killing Deputy Constable Outside Houston-area Courthouse

A deputy constable was fatally shot outside a Houston-area courthouse Monday morning, and authorities are still looking for the shooter.Clinton Greenwood, the assistant chief deputy constable for Harris County Precinct 3, was shot around 7 a.m. after arriving for work at the Baytown Courthouse, about 25 miles east of Houston. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.Authorities did not know a motive for the attack."Whether or not he was specifically targeted, or whether this was because of the uniform he was wearing or the place he pulled up to in the morning, we just don't know that right now," Lt. Steve Dorris of the Baytown Police Department told the Houston Chronicle.Dorris added that there was no indication that nearby residents were at risk, but intersections near the courthouse were closed and a high school went on lockdown as authorities conducted a manhunt.Greenwood, 57, had been in law enforcement for nearly 30 years, also working in the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "We ask the entire community to please stand by us," Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzales said.
