Asian Community News: Korean-American Day Marks 115 Years, Real-estate Group Hosts Plano Gala

January 13 is a notable date for Korean-Americans. On that date in 1903, the first Korean immigrants came to the United States to work as sugar-cane plantation laborers in Hawaii.Over the years, momentum grew to celebrate the day. In 2005, Congress passed a resolution by unanimous consent for formal recognition of Korean-American Day. On Saturday, 115 years to the day, four organizations in Dallas marked the day with a parade, a traditional costume show, drumming and kimchi (a traditional Korean dish). The Korean Society of Dallas, the Korean American Coalition DFW Chapter, the National Unification Advisory Council Dallas Chapter and the Greater Dallas Korean American Chamber hosted the events in the Asian Trade District of Dallas with a ceremony at Sura restaurant on Royal Lane.  Continue reading...
