As Women's History Month Begins, Site Releases Its 2017 Best and Worst States for Women

March is Women's History Month, when the nation shines the spotlight on women's achievements and how women are progressing in general. The outlook is not that good, if you accept a recently released analysis by WalletHub, a sometimes controversial website in Washington, D.C. that explores personal finance and national social issues. The site launched in 2013 and has released various reports exploring how the nation's 50 states, plus the District of Columbia, rank against each other. One recent report looked at the best and worst states for women in 2017, assessing states in more than 15 categories, including earnings, unemployment, health, homicides, voting and business ownership.Texas ranked 42nd out of 51, with Minnesota and Vermont listed as Nos. 1 and 2. Louisiana ranked 50th and Mississippi 51st. Toward the middle were the District of Columbia (24), Montana (25), and New York (26).The report states that women outnumber men in all but six states, yet represent nearly two-thirds of all the nation's minimum-wage workers. The report suggests women can use tje findings to determine where to find the best living conditions and opportunities. The remainder of March will see the release of a myriad such findings as panels and conferences put explore women's issues. To learn more about the study, visit www.wallethub.com and click on "Articles & Studies" and then on "2017's Best & Worst States for Women."  Continue reading...
