Armed Standoff in Wilmer Ends With Child's Rescue, Suspect's Death

A man is dead and a 2-year-old boy has been rescued after Dallas County sheriff's deputies and Wilmer police were involved in an hours-long standoff Wednesday morning.The standoff began around 2 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 5900 block of South Interstate 45 near Belt Line Road and ended just before 9 a.m., KDFW-TV (Channel 4) reported.The child, who did not appear to be injured, was rescued and taken to a nearby ambulance just before the situation ended, the station reported.The suspect apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, deputies said.Residents were evacuated as the standoff progressed, deputies said.  Continue reading...
