Arlington Firefighters File Suit Over Civil Service Conflicts

A heated fight in Arlington took another turn as Arlington firefighters sued the city over what they say is non-compliance with a voter-approved civil service measure last year.A lawsuit filed Tuesday in a Tarrant County district court accuses the city of retaliating against firefighters in the aftermath of a May 2017 election that approved the establishment of a civil service system to govern the hiring and disciplinary procedures of the city's fire department.The lawsuit claims the city retaliated against firefighters after the election by canceling planned promotional interviews, eliminating long-standing wages, benefits and working conditions, and reassigning firefighters without explanation.  Continue reading...
