President Donald Trump’s travel ban has angered people around the world because it runs so counter to America’s core values and founding principles. But it also poses a threat to our economy, both nationwide and in Texas.Immigrants are a crucial part of the workforce, especially in science and technology. They contribute significantly to patent filings at top companies and account for a large share of entrepreneurs. One study found that immigrants created almost a quarter of science and engineering startups in the U.S. and 44 percent of those in Silicon Valley. That’s one reason technology leaders were quick to object to Trump’s order.Google co-founder Sergey Brin, who emigrated from Russia when he was 6, turned out for protests in San Francisco last weekend. He told a reporter: “I am here because I am a refugee.”Apple said it didn’t support Trump’s policy and noted that late founder Steve Jobs’ father was an immigrant from Syria.
