After Ruth Bader Ginsburg's Cancer Surgery, Cornyn Wishes Her ‘long and Happy Life – in Retirement'

AUSTIN -- While Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was still in recovery on Friday after surgery to remove cancerous nodules from her lungs, Texas Republican Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz joked about how they'd like to see her leave the bench. "I wish Ruth Bader Ginsberg a long and happy life -- hopefully in retirement," Cornyn said, during the duo's keynote speech at a Texas Public Policy Foundation luncheon on Friday. Cruz added, "I think she'd make an excellent ambassador to pretty much any country in the world," he said. The comments came as Cornyn was discussing how the Senate, with 53 members, will have great success in confirming conservative judges. He said transforming the judiciary will be one of President Trump's strong legacies. Cruz later quipped, when discussing how to fix the nation's health care system, that Speaker Nancy Pelosi should retire, and then "send her and Ruth Bader Ginsburg on a vacation." Ginsburg, seen as the liberal pillar of the Supreme Court, is recovering from her third bout with cancer. On Friday, the Supreme Court reported the 85-year-old justice had no remaining signs of cancer following a surgery last month.
