After Incidents on College Campuses, Texas Senators Examine Free Speech Policies

SAN MARCOS — Several months after Republican Rep. Briscoe Cain was blocked from speaking at Texas Southern University, state senators held a public hearing about free speech on college campuses.Members of the Senate Committee on State Affairs asked 14 invited speakers about the registration requirements of student organizations, security costs and other barriers that may hinder students from bringing speakers onto campus to exercise their free speech rights.Senators held the hearing at Texas State University on Wednesday in an effort to determine what policy changes, if any, they could make to support college students' free speech rights.  Continue reading...
