One November a couple of years ago, I was scrolling through Facebook when suddenly an image appeared that stopped me dead in my tracks. It was a naked man on a sidewalk. He was lying on his stomach with his arms and legs hogtied behind his back and his body was covered in some sort of greasy iridescent bronzer. It was such a startling image that it took a few seconds for my brain to understand exactly what I was seeing. I noticed he was in front of a poultry mill, and I could only assume they were selling turkeys for the holidays.My first thought was, "Oh my goodness! They must be doing something really terrible in there for this man to be protesting in this fashion!" But almost simultaneously my second thought was, "I do not want to know what it is, because God forbid I have to join the protest and become a naked turkey person myself!"So I kept scrolling. Isn't that terrible? But it is the way the human brain works. We naturally care about atrocities, but if we're being honest with ourselves, most of us are not likely to join movements that require us to appear like complete lunatics in public.And yet, here I am, a pro-lifer.
