Abilene Woman Arrested After 1-year-old Tests Positive for Meth, Weed

An Abilene woman was arrested Tuesday after her 1-year-old son tested positive for cocaine and marijuana, KTXS-TV reported. April Yvonne Cortez, 30, is charged with endangering a child. Records show that she was released from the Taylor County jail after posting $5,000 bond.Cortez was the driver of a vehicle involved in a July 2017 rollover wreck that killed her 7-year-old son. A toxicology report revealed that the boy had methamphetamine and amphetamine in his system at the time of the accident, KTXS reported.Following that discovery, Cortez and her surviving child underwent a test that revealed the drugs in the 1-year-old's system. The test also revealed cocaine, meth, and marijuana in Cortez's system, according to KTXS.Cortez has been booked into the Taylor County jail 10 times since 2006, records indicate, and four of those arrests have been drug-related.
