9-year-old Girl Killed in Gang-related Shooting in Old East Dallas, Police Say

A 9-year-old girl was killed Wednesday evening in Old East Dallas when someone mistakenly fired a shot into the apartment she was in, police say. Officers responded about 5:30 p.m. to a report of shots fired in the 3500 block of Munger Avenue, near North Washington Avenue. When they arrived, they found the girl had been wounded and administered CPR until paramedics arrived. Dallas Fire-Rescue took the child to Baylor University Medical Center, where she died, police said. Police Sgt. Warren Mitchell said the shooting was gang-related. Detectives determined that multiple people went to the complex looking for a particular person who would not come out of their apartment. They then went around to the back to look for the tenant and one person fired a round into the wrong apartment, striking the girl, Mitchell said. No one was in custody Wednesday night and police did not provide a description of the shooter or other suspects.   Continue reading...
