8.2 Earthquake in Alaska Ignites Tsunami Warnings

An earthquake with a magnitude of 8.2 struck Alaska about 175 miles southeast of Kodiak Island early Tuesday, prompting a tsunami warning for coastal Alaska, British Columbia and the West Coast of the U.S. By 6:15 a.m. Central time, the tsunami warning had been cancelled for the Washington, Oregon and California coasts, the National Weather Service in Seattle reported.The quake struck at a depth of 6 miles at 12:31 a.m. local time (3:31 a.m. Central time), USA Today reported.Here are the latest developments:2:45 a.m. (all times local)Larry LeDoux, superintendent of the Kodiak Island Borough School District, says schools were open as shelters and estimated there were about 500 people at the high school.   Continue reading...
