59-year-old Gets 7 Years in Prison for Killing Man Outside Arlington Store

A 59-year-old man was sentenced Monday to seven years in prison for killing another man after a fight last year at an Arlington convenience store. A Tarrant County jury found Gary Kent Lee guilty Friday in the March 21, 2018, murder of Michael Alvarado. "The complicated interaction between the two men involved in this incident was clearly a factor in the jurors' sudden passion finding and the term of sentence," lead Tarrant County prosecutor Marcus Hanna told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "We are hopeful everyone involved is able to find some closure in their verdict."According to Texas law, during the punishment phase of a trial, the defendant can say that he or she was influenced by sudden passion arising from a cause that is "sufficient to render the mind incapable of cool reflection."The sudden passion finding means the maximum penalty would be 20 years instead of life.   Continue reading...
