3 Children Found in Far East Dallas Home That Was Piled Waist-high With Garbage, Rotten Food

A Far East Dallas woman has been arrested after police found her three children left alone in a house piled waist-high with garbage, clothing and rotten food.Police were called to a home in the 11000 block of Desdemona Drive, near Casa View Park, around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday after a relative reported that the children had been alone in the home, which did not have gas or running water, since 5 p.m.Officers found Juanita Raquel Allen, 41, in the driver's seat of a vehicle in the driveway. She had bloodshot eyes and her breath smelled of alcohol, an arrest-warrant affidavit says, and there was an open can of Miller Lite in her cup holder.A man in the passenger seat, 41-year-old Ruben Ydell Smith, was carrying a pistol without a concealed handgun license and had a small amount of marijuana, police said.The officers arrested Allen on an outstanding warrant for driving with a suspended license. When they knocked on the home's door to check on the children, no one answered, so they took Allen's keys and opened the door.As soon as they opened the door, the officers observed "hundreds of small insects, including roaches, scattered throughout the residence including the ceiling walls and ground," the affidavit says.
