2 San Antonio Police Officers in ‘very Critical' Condition After Shooting

Two San Antonio police officers are in "very critical" condition after they were shot Thursday afternoon north of downtown, police said. The officers who were on patrol about 3:40 p.m. in the 200 block of West Evergreen Street attempted to stop two people. As the officers got out of the car, one person opened fire striking one officer in the head and face, and the other in the upper torso, police Chief William McManus said. The officers returned fire and struck the suspect. All three people were transported to area hospitals, he said. The other person police were trying to stop was detained immediately, McManus said. Both officers, whose names have not been released, are nine year veterans of the department. The officers had been patrolling the area for street crimes. It's unclear how many shots were fired. The shooting occured on the border of San Antonio College, which was placed on lockdown. The lockdown was lifted after about 40 minutes, and classes were set to continue.   Continue reading...
