12-year-old Boy Shot in Mouth by Teen Playing With Gun, Police Say

A 12-year-old boy was shot in the mouth early Saturday by a teenager who was fooling around with a handgun in southeast Oak Cliff. police said.Police responded to a shooting call about 2:45 a.m. in the 3100 block of Stag Road, near A. Maceo Smith New Tech High School.They discovered the boy wounded but still conscious and lucid enough to tell them what happened. He was taken to Children's Medical Center Dallas with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to police.Police said the victim told them that he and the 15-year-old boy were talking when the teen pointed the handgun at him and pretended as if he was going to shoot.But he forgot that the safety was off and fired the weapon.The teen was taken into custody and transported to the Henry Wade Juvenile Detention Center.
