11-year-old Texas Girl Wrote in Diary About Sexual Abuse by Teacher, Authorities Say

A 75-year-old substitute teacher and tutor was arrested after an 11-year-old’s diary that detailed the sexual assaults was discovered by her little sister and given to her great-grandfather. Luis Lopez was fired from his position as a substitute teacher at a San Antonio elementary school following the allegations of sexual abuse, KSAT-TV reported. He was arrested Wednesday on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child and was released on a $75,000 bond. Lopez tutored the 11-year-old over the summer and is accused of sexually assaulting her on several occasions. The 11-year-old girl wrote about abuse in her diary, which was found by her little sister over the weekend, KENS-TV reported. Since she couldn’t read it, the little sister gave the diary to her great-grandfather, who phoned the principal and the principal alerted police. The diary included “graphic sex writings” about the 11-year-old’s encounters with the 75-year-old when she went to his home for tutoring sessions over the summer, KENS-TV reported.Lopez waived the tutoring fee for the family, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the station.The girl told officials that one day over the summer when she was at his home for a tutoring session he allowed her to shower in his bedroom, the station reported. When she got out of the shower, he sexually assaulted her on his bed while her brother was in another room. She told police that Lopez had fondled and sexually assaulted her several other times, KSAT-TV reported. Lopez frequently took the girl and her brother swimming, to the movies and out for lunch, the affidavit said. He also bought the children clothes, shoes, a cell phone and a laptop.Lopez agreed to turn himself in Wednesday, but he didn’t show up.
