In tough economic times, frugal shoppers are looking for deals and smart business owners are giving them.  Here are a few deals we've found for the week of Oct. 12-18.

Family 1st of Texas Federal Credit Union is offering free shredding services today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The credit union is at 3501 Western Center Boulevard in Fort Worth.  Anyone is welcome to bring their old papers and files for free shredding.

This month and next, Dallas' West End is offering free concerts on Friday nights.  A full schedule is available here.

The new CityDoc clinic at 5301 West Lovers Lane in Dallas is offering free flu shots for people who live in the 75209 zip code on Friday only.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month you can indulge in food, wine, fine art and music Friday and Saturday in Sundance Square.  Admission to Musicarte de Fort Worth is free.


There is a free Texas/OU watching party at the Market Street grocery on North Denton Tap Road in Coppell on Saturday.  A 9x15 foot video screen will show the game in the parking lot.

Every Saturday has something different and interesting at the Uptown Village at Cedar Hill.  Jazz, movies and car shows will feature attractions on different Saturdays in September. A schedule is available here.

Saturdays and Sundays at 11:45 a.m. and 4:15 p.m., The Legends of Texas Gunfight Shows take place at Stockyards Station in Fort Worth. The shows are free and attendees can learn about about the history of this part of North Texas between 1835 and the early 1900s.

Trying to cut back on costs but don't want to miss out on the State Fair of Texas? Go to any Kroger store and you can pick up a general admission ticket and round trip transportation on DART for just $16. More information about the Kroger offer at The State Fair of Texas runs from Sept. 25 to Oct. 18.

Medieval Times will throw you a birthday party featuring a free feast and tournament on your birthday, all you have to do is join their Birthday Fellowship and purchase on regular-priced admission. Freebies started Jan. 1 and end Dec. 31, 2010. More information at Medieval

The Theatre Communications Group is offering Free Nights of Theater. The City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs announced the Free Night of Theater will be held from Thursday, Oct. 8 through Sunday, Nov. 8. featuring more than 2,000 free tickets to more than 25 Dallas-area theaters. Tickets will be released in a staggered format with each weekend's ticket allotment being released on the Monday prior to the performance. Theatergoers can reserve tickets through the Free Night of Theater Web site here beginning at noon on Monday, Oct. 5. Through the end of the month, sign up for children's classes at My Gym in Plano and pay your child's weight as the first month's tuition. The gym is for children ages 6 months to 13 years old.

Every day all day through Oct. 31 two kids can eat free with every one adult entree purchased at Boston Market. The children must be present to take advantage of the deal.

When was the last time you saw an 80s classic?  Well, that's too long.  Head over to the Belmont Hotel  on the west side of downtown Dallas and watch the movie poolside, under the stars.  Dive-in movies begin at dusk and are free of charge.  The Belmont will show a different movie each week ... go here for more information.

Borden Milk is celebrating Elsie the Cow's 70th birthday with free music downloads now through Oct. 18. Look for specially marked caps on a gallon of milk to receive the information needed for the download.
