Deals & Discounts: Free Holiday Events

In tough economic times, frugal shoppers are looking for deals and smart business owners are giving them.  Here are a few deals we've found for the week of Nov. 16-20.

WEEKEND DEALS

The City of Plano Parks and Recreation Department will host its 31st annual Christmas Crafts Fair Nov. 21 & 22. Booths will offer handmade holiday decorations and gifts including a large selection of Santas, angels, tree skirts, ornaments, and wreaths. Jewelry and clothing will also be available. The fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday at Plano Centre, 2000 East Spring Creek Parkway. Admission is free.  More information here.

Also on Saturday, The Village at Allen will kick off the holiday season with Santa's arrival and a tree lighting at 6 p.m.  Rumor has it Santa will flip the switch on the 35-foot, interactive tree's 100,000 lights.  More information here.

Another tree lighting ceremony will take place in Southlake on Saturday.  Head over to Southlake Town Square Saturday night for the Festival of Trees (an event running Friday through Sunday) to see the tree lighting.  More information here.

Saturdays and Sundays at 11:45 a.m. and 4:15 p.m., The Legends of Texas Gunfight Shows take place at Stockyards Station in Fort Worth. The shows are free and attendees can learn about about the history of this part of North Texas between 1835 and the early 1900s.

On Saturday at Dallas' Main Street Garden enjoy live music from Thrift Store Cowboys and Jonathan Tyler and the Northern Lights. Bring the dog, stretch your legs on the Great Lawn and enjoy a drink while relaxing in the middle of Downtown. Get more information here.

MONDAY DEALS

Dunkin' Donuts is offering a medium coffee for only $.25 every Monday through the NFL season.  The offer is good at most participating DFW locations from open to noon. Additionally, customers can redeem their Cowboys game ticket stubs at any Dunkin’ Donuts location to receive a free medium hot coffee on weekdays after every home game.

TUESDAY DEALS

LeSara Cupcake Bar is offering discount ice cream with a cupcake purchase every Tuesday during the month of November.  The cupcake bar is located in Colleyville and open Tuesday through Saturday between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Posados is offering a free nacho bar Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.  The nacho bar includes beans, meat, queso, lettuce, tomato, salsa and one sopapillia.

On Tuesdays, shoppers older than 55 will be given 15 percent off their purchase at all Metroplex Catherine's Plus clothing stores.

WEDNESDAY DEALS

Volunteers with the Dallas Bar Association will answer questions about divorce, child support, wills, insurance, criminal law and more each Wednesday between 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.  There is no cost ... call 214-220-7476.

Enjoy a free game of bowling at the Allen Bowl on Greenville Avenue.  The offer is good through the end of the year, though you will need to print out a coupon to receive your free game.  You can get the coupon here.

Dos Pericos Mexican restaurant and cantina in Lake Worth offers all you can eat enchiladas (beef, chicken and cheese) plus rice and beans for only $6.99.

The Core Golf School at Chase Oaks in Allen is offering golf lessons for half price on Wednesdays as well as the ability to bring a friend along for free through the end of the year. Billy Bobs Texas offers free line dance lessons every Thursday at 7 p.m. Admission on Thursday is reduced until 8 p.m.

FRIDAY DEALS

The holidays begin in downtown Dallas on Friday in the Main Street District with the Neiman Marcus building lighting and holiday window unveiling beginning at 7 p.m.  At 7:30 p.m., a parade of lights will weave through the promenade from Neiman's to the Main Street Garden where the city's 60-foot tall tree resides.
