This weekend the Dallas Film Society will honor veteran actor Robert Duvall with the Dallas Star Award. In celebration of his career, the Arthur E. Benjamin Foundation will screen three of Duvall’s films; The Godfather: Part II, Secondhand Lions, and Duvall’s most recent work Get Low.
Duvall has been an iconic presence in American films since the 1970s. In 1962, Duvall made his screen debut when he played “Boo Radley” in To Kill A Mockingbird, but his career breakthrough came in Francis Ford Coppolla’s The Godfather in 1972.
He went on to star in Network, The Conversation, Godfather I and 2, Thank You For Smoking and Tender Mercies, for which he won an Academy Award for Best Actor. Duvall was also honored with the title of most versatile actor in the world by the Guiness Book.
According to the Dallas Film Society, Duvall is scheduled to introduce the Get Low screening (11 a.m. on Saturday) at the Cinemark 17 Webb Chapel in Dallas. Screenings of Secondhand Lions and The Godfather: Part II follow at 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
Tickets are $8 for members and $10 for non-members.
